To do a complete re-install of Windows XP
this will erase everything on your Hard Disk Drive.
if necessary back up important documents etc. first. use a cd/dvd recorder or memory stick
I have found the microsoft 'transfer settings & files' program unreliable so i always make a separate backup of important documents.
make sure you have made a note of your Internet and Email settings.
set bios 'advanced settings boot order to 1, floppy, 2, cd-rom, 3 IDE-0
or at any rate make sure the cd-rom is ahead of the hard disk drive.
This is usually done by pressing delete or F2 key during boot.
reboot. message press any key to boot from cd-rom press any key.
blue startup screen after a few minutes...
to set up win xp now press enter.
Agree License, Press F8
To continue installing fresh copy of windows XP press Esc
Select the partition showing.... to delete selected partition press D
this deletes your old partition completely.
then create new partition and format it with NTFS
system will continue installing automagically
note when you are asked for country settings you have to change keyboard over to UK one. you can also remove the US keyboard layout here if you will not be using it.
